Fort Greene Real Estate
Fort Greene apartments provide residents the opportunity to live in an extremely diverse community that is home to many well-respected academic and cultural institutions. The neighborhood is bordered by Myrtle Avenue to the north, Atlantic Avenue to the south, Flatbush Avenue to the west and Vanderbilt Avenue to the east. The area derives its name from a Revolutionary War fort built there, and is home to Brooklyn’s first park.
The neighborhood consists of mostly well-preserved low-rise living arrangements, including a multitude of brownstones. A major renewal project has been proposed for the Atlantic Yards that would bring even more modern commercial and living options to the area. Fort Greene provides affordable housing for the extensive space that it provides, which has attracted many new residents from Manhattan. This influx combined with the neighborhood’s older residents has fostered a notable socio-economically diverse mix of inhabitants that peacefully coexist.
There are a variety of institutions located within Fort Greene that make the area a desirable place to live. Academic institutions such as Pratt Institute and Long Island University are easily accessible to the area, which is also home to one of the city’s most highly regarded public schools, Brooklyn Technical High School. In addition, the Brooklyn Music School, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, and the Paul Robeson Theater are all situated in this section of Brooklyn, as well as a variety of other theaters and cultural venues.
Fort Greene is a center of Brooklyn that offers something for everyone, including many eateries, bars, and commercial centers, including the Atlantic Terminal Mall, which houses a number of big box retail stores. It is a great place to raise a family with its cultured atmosphere and academic opportunities. Fort Greene is also an excellent place to live for young professionals, as one can enjoy the close proximity to the trendier artistic communities of Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo, and Williamsburg, but for a more affordable price.
