Apartments in Greenwich Village
Greenwich Village apartments are some of the most coveted places to live in all of New York City. Greenwich Village is located in central Lower Manhattan, bordered by 6th Avenue on the west, Broadway on the east, Houston Street on the south and 14th Street on the north. The area possesses a wide diversity of people, ranging from students and individuals to couples and families.
Before SoHo and TriBeCa, Greenwich Village was the NYC artists’ haven, and it remains today a very liberal and somewhat artsy neighborhood with higher rents and property values. The area’s rich history, beautiful streets and high number of celebrity residents make it a desired place to set up camp, and its parks, playgrounds and culture make it an enjoyable place to raise a family.
Real estate prices in Greenwich Village are generally higher than other neighborhoods, especially near Washington Square Park, Union Square and other prime sections. Although buildings tend to be much shorter than the high rises of neighboring Midtown, apartment buildings are still an option, along with traditional brownstones and row houses.
Among its entertaining amenities are Washington Square Park, with its famous arch; the West 4th Street Courts, where basketball and handball players come to compete; Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway theaters; and many shops, restaurants and bars. The neighborhood is dominated by college and graduate students who attend New York University and are interspersed throughout the area. Bleecker Street is one of the most popular hangouts where students and adults come to eat, drink and have fun.
