Flatbush Real Estate
Flatbush apartments provide residents with a culturally diverse place to live. Flatbush is bounded by Prospect Park, Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Empire Boulevard to the north, Avenue H on the south, Coney Island Avenue on the west and New York Avenue on the east. Flatbush is approximately a 30 minute train away from Manhattan and can be accessed by the B, Q, 2 and 5 trains.
The types of residential units in Flatbush vary with housing predominately made up of apartment buildings and some older Victorian homes. There is a lot of ethnic diversity in Flatbush with people of Caribbean, African and Indian descent living there. When walking along the commercial strips in Flatbush, one can find a variety of restaurants with food ranging from Mexican to Caribbean to Chinese. Most of the businesses along these commercial strips are small businesses; however, there are a few big chains, such as Target and Old Navy.
Older baseball fans that followed the Brooklyn Dodgers have a connection to Flatbush. The home of the Dodgers, Ebbets Field, was located in Flatbush before it was torn down in 1960. As a result of shifting boundaries, Ebbets Field was located in what is now considered Crown Heights; however, it will always remain a part of Flatbush history.
Flatbush has a number of educational institutions located in the area. There are several elementary and junior high schools and one high school, Erasmus Hall High School. The CUNY Brooklyn College campus is shared between Flatbush and the neighboring area of Midwood.
